Dear Mitt Romney,
I viewed an online video recently, and I was astounded at your knowledge of the US Constitution. As a presidential candidate, the right to run for this august office is guaranteed for constitutionally qualified candidates, as I’m positive you know.
During this “meet-and-greet” pass-through of what appeared to be a diner, you sat at the table occupied by two gentlemen. With one of them, you fielded a question regarding gay marriage. I applauded your answer’s succinctness: “I believe a marriage is between a man and a woman.” It’s not often that a politician keeps an answer so short!
You also stated that according to the US Constitution our founders wrote, “it’s pretty clear…that marriage is between [a/one] man and [a/one] woman.”
Mr. Romney, with all due respect to your august education, experience and knowledge, ARE YOU FREAKIN’ NUTS??
Nowhere in either the original Constitution OR the Bill of Rights is there mention of the word, “marriage.” Other words of which there is no mention are “hetrosexual,” “homosexual,” “bi-sexual,” transsexual,” “polygamy,” “monogamy” or any related phrase!
There is, however, quite eloquent mention of a person’s right to practice any faith [recognized by the federal government] of choice. That means any citizen or registered alien can practice different doctrines within Christianity, Wicca, Buddhism and so on. However, within Christianity, there are different versions or faiths — Protestant, Catholicism, Methodist, United Methodist, Baptist and more.
Did you know, Mr. Romney, that not every faith, much less every Christian faith, believes as you do? Did you know that the Church of Latter Day Saints, the Mormons, allow polygamy, and it’s practiced heavily within that faith in the great state of Utah by legislative allowance?
What are you going to do about that? You limit by gender, based on one faith’s bass-ackward’s doctrine, thereby, persecuting all other faiths federally recognized in this country, and you limit “marriage” to one man and one woman?
And you have the audacity to do so while stating that sole qualification has been mandated by the United States Constitution since its adoption.
Forcing people of any faith to adhere to your faith-based laws is called religious persecution. For example, if you try for that one-man-one-woman marriage amendment, there goes religion-based polygamy. Because this group is powerful politically, let’s say, for the sake of discussion, they objected, so you scribe an exception into the law.
Guess what? If you don’t include every religion-based exception — even those of Native Americans, for example, or United Methodists or … or … or … that allow same-gender marriages, the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT JUST COMMITTED RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION.
If you had ever qualified for my voting consideration, you sure as hell (note: lower case used there) lost it after viewing that video. You never had it, though, so you did nothing but cement my opposition to your candidacy — and that of every Religious Right candidate from now until eternity.

P.P.S. You really don’t think your “serving (your) church” equates to “serving your country,” do you? Those veterans staked their lives in the Viet Nam War. What did you put up and stake in Paris in the 1960s — a bicycle tire?
