A fellow freelance writer and I were talking the other day about her personal blog on parenting. (With any luck, we’ll get a guest post from her here soon!) But the conversation led from one thing to another, and while she’s using the same SEO standards in her own blogs that clients are needing, many freelancers trying to build their own businesses or blogs sometimes forget:
SEO counts in Internet content!
Is your blog about gardening? Cool. Keep your content about gardening. Anything related to gardening is great: Just remember your keywords.
We get orders all the time requiring keyword and keyphrase use and density. Remember to use that same principle and density standard in your personal blogs and/or in your business blogs, and those focus items within your content will catch the ever-roaming spider eyes of search engines.
And the more times you catch their attention in as many ways as is coherently possible in your blog topic, the better your rankings will become.
But that’s not all you have to do to improve your content relevance and
“importance”
…in the SEO race.
Let’s take that gardening blog as the example again: You know what words and phrases related to gardening that you tell the SEs are important, but do you know how important those words and phrases are to web searchers?
Clients give us weird-seeming SEO requirements for a reason. We know what that reason is as we write that content, but do you know what your target audience is looking for?
Then how can you give it to them in your blog?
Google Adwords has a terrific keyword search tool. Determine what keywords you think are important to your blog topic then configure your parameters as noted, and with one click, you see not only how important searchers think your keywords are but those they think are important.
Start tailoring your content for smooth, coherent use of those keywords, and you will be using the same concepts those clients of ours are using to promote products, services, websites and blogs of their own or for their clients!
Tomorrow, we’ll discuss how to use keyword tiers to fine tune those keywords and promote your content even more in Search Engine Optimization of your personal or professional blog. Stay tuned!
